Kalam Saheb was known as Missile Man in the scientific world, but in political circles he was known as the People’s President. Kalam Saheb’s entire life is like energy, who traveled from selling newspapers to becoming the first citizen of India.

APJ Abdul Kalam’s childhood
Kalam Saheb started studying at the age of five. He received his primary education from Rameshwaram. Kalam Saheb loved flying, like a bird flies in the open sky. He had to go into the field of aeronautics after seeing flying birds. He wanted to become a pilot, but God had something different for him.
Kalam Saheb’s entry in ISRO
In 1950, APJ Abdul Kalam earned a bachelor’s degree in space science from the Madras Institute of Technology. After graduating he worked on the hovercraft project at the Defense Research and Development Institute. Later he went to Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1962. Kalam Saheb launched many satellites in ISRO.
Why was APJ Abdul Kalam named Missile Man?
India’s first indigenous satellite launch vehicle, SLV-3, was designed by APJ Abdul Kalam as the project director at ISRO. India successfully sent Rohini satellite into space in this vehicle. He was named Missile Man because he worked very hard in making this missile. Kalam Saheb again gave many missiles to the country.
India’s Pokhran Message
In July 1992, he became Scientific Advisor to APJ Abdul Kalam in the Indian Defense Ministry. In 1998, India conducted its second successful nuclear test in Pokhran under the leadership of Kalam Saheb and made the whole world realize its becoming a superpower. Kalam Saheb had done a lot in this mission.
Kalam Saheb’s journey political
On July 18, 2002, APJ Abdul Kalam became the eleventh President of the country. Kalam Saheb did not see any change in his nature even after becoming the President, hence he was given the title of People’s President. Kalam Saheb allowed the public to enter Rashtrapati Bhavan. He sometimes talks to common people or farmers while eating food at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Kamal Shah remained the President till 2007.
After leaving the post of President, APJ Abdul Kalam worked in many universities across the country. He enjoyed interacting with people. He always met his countrymen. Kalam sahib wrote many books. His books became very popular. Kalam Saheb’s goal was to make India powerful and economically prosperous by 2020.

UN celebrated Kalam Saheb’s 79th birthday as World Students Day. He has also received numerous honors from India. He was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1997, Padma Bhushan in 1981 and Padma Vibhushan in 1990 by the Government of India.

APJ Abdul Kalam’s death
APJ Abdul Kalam died on the evening of 27 July 2015. He was giving a speech on ‘Livable Planet’ at an event at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong, India, when he suffered a heart attack and fell unconscious. After being transferred to the hospital, he passed away two hours later. On July 27, at the age of 84, Kalam Saheb said goodbye to the world.
