Why do earthquakes happen?

The earth’s surface is made up of seven large and many small tectonic plates. These plates keep colliding with each other again and again. Due to collision, the corners of the plates bend several times, and due to excessive pressure, these plates break. In such a situation, the energy released from below finds a way out, causing an earthquake.

467 years ago, 8.30 lakh people died in the earthquake that occurred in China.

The worst earthquake occurred in Chile on May 22, 1960. Its intensity was 9.5 on the Richter scale. The subsequent tsunami devastated many countries, including southern Chile, the Hawaiian Islands, eastern New Zealand, the Philippines, Japan, and south-eastern Australia. In this 1655 people died and 3000 were injured. The worst earthquake occurred in China in 1556, in which 8.30 lakh people died.

Earthquake affected places now known

Earlier this year Turkiye was hit by a devastating earthquake, which dropped 10 feet. Numerous thousands of people died. Turkey’s terrain was displaced by around 10 feet (3 meters) by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake. Italian seismologist Carlo Dogliani had made this claim. The world is built on huge tectonic plates. Lava is fluid beneath the plates. These plates keep colliding with each other again and again.

Most of Turkey is built on the Anatolian tectonic plate. The Euroasian, African and Arabian plates have merged into it. Turkey gets stuck like a sandwich as the African and Arabian plates shift. This causes the earth to release energy, which causes earthquakes. An earthquake occurred on the North Anatolian Fault Line in Turkey on Monday.

There was an earthquake in Japan in 2011, due to which the earth slipped.

On March 11, 2011, the first earthquake of magnitude 9.1 occurred in Japan. This large earthquake killed numerous people and caused a four to ten inch shift in the earth’s axis. The speed of the Earth’s daily rotation also increased.

At that time, USGS seismologist Paul Earle said that the earthquake had pushed Japan’s largest island, Honshu, about 8 feet east from its current location. More than 160 earthquakes occurred in the first 24 hours. 141 had intensity greater than 5. Around 1,500 people died in Japan as a result of the earthquake and tsunami.

Japan is the area most affected by earthquakes. It is in the Pacific Ring Forest. Several continental and oceanic tectonic plates can be found in the Ring of Fire. When these plates collide, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes occur.

From New Zealand to Japan, Alaska, North and South America, and beyond, the impact of this Ring of Fire can be observed. 90% of earthquakes occur in the Ring of Fire region. This area is 40 thousand kilometers. 75% of the active volcanoes worldwide are in this region. 15 countries are in the grip of this war.
