IPL 2024 Schedule: Inaugural match between Chennai and RCB, schedule of first 21 matches of IPL released.
IPL 2024 Schedule: Chennai team will play the first match of any IPL season, this will be a record ninth time. The team has previously played inaugural matches in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will start on Thursday, 22 February. Former winner Chennai Super Kings team will participate in the first match. Its home match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium on 22 March. Chennai will face RCB. Currently the schedule of 21 matches is going on. Chennai team will play the first match of any IPL season, this will be a record ninth time. The team has previously played inaugural matches in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
The first two matches of Delhi Capitals will be played in Visakhapatnam. After playing the final of the Women’s Premier League in Delhi, it will take some time to prepare the ground for the IPL. Delhi’s first two matches will therefore be held in Visakhapatnam. Due to general elections in the country this year, the complete schedule of IPL has not been released. The program is currently for 17 days. The schedule of the remaining matches will be released after the dates of Lok Sabha elections are announced.
Two double headers in the first week.
“21 matches will be played across 10 cities over a two-week period, with each team playing a minimum of three matches and a maximum of five matches,” the BCCI said in a statement. The first week will feature two doubleheaders: Punjab Kings will host Delhi Capitals on Saturday afternoon, and Kolkata Knight Riders will host Sunrisers Hyderabad in the evening. Home team Rajasthan Royals will face Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday afternoon (24 March). Gujarat Titans, the home team, will take on five-time winners Mumbai Indians on Sunday evening.:”
“The BCCI will work closely with the government and security agencies while following all necessary protocols and advisories related to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India,” the board announced. After the date of 18th Lok Sabha election is announced, the Board will review and resolve any queries related to the schedule of the first two weeks. The BCCI will then work with local authorities to plan a schedule for the remainder of the season, keeping in mind the voting dates.:”
The entire IPL will be held in the country itself.
IPL President Arun Dhumal said that the entire tournament will be held in India only. Only in 2009, the IPL was played entirely in South Africa, while in 2014, due to the general elections, some matches were played in UAE. The tournament took place in India despite the 2019 general elections.
