Jaishankar Iran Visit: Jaishankar, who arrived here, said in the ongoing high-level meetings between India and Iran that both the countries are concerned about the recent incidents in West Asia and the increase in violence and hostility in the region should be prevented.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar termed the attacks on commercial ships around India as a matter of grave concern to the international community and said that this terrible situation is not in the interest of any country.
Such threats, according to him, directly affect India’s energy and economy. On Monday, Jaishankar arrived in Tehran on a two-day visit to Iran, where he was addressing a joint press conference after discussing various issues. Jaishankar said that the risks to the safety of maritime commercial shipping in this important part of the Indian Ocean have also increased recently. Emphasizing the attacks on ships in the Red Sea, he said that this crisis should be resolved as soon as possible.
Talk about North-South link and Chabahar.
Jaishankar also discussed Chabahar port, the international North-South transport corridor and several issues of bilateral and global importance with the Iranian foreign minister. Giving this information in a social media post, Jaishankar said, our bilateral discussions focused on the long-term framework for India’s participation in the Chabahar Port and INSTC connectivity project. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a tweet that the expansion of Chabahar port and the North-South transit route is important. The Ministry of External Affairs said that international water security is important.
India-Iran are developing Chabahar port
The Chabahar port, being built in Sistan-Baluchistan province on energy-rich Iran’s southern coast, aims to boost trade and connectivity between India and Iran. IThe Chabahar port project is being pushed by India, particularly for connectivity with Afghanistan. In 2021, Jaishankar presented Chabahar port as an important regional transit hub, including Afghanistan, at the Sampark (Connectivity) conference in Tashkent. Chabahar port is also important for the INSTC project.
