Afghanistan team came to chase the target of 289 runs at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, but was all out for 139 runs in the 35th over. Afghanistan won the toss here and chose to bowl. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has a broken thumb. New Zealand Cricket confirmed this on Twitter on Saturday, October 14. Williamson suffered the injury in the match against Bangladesh on Friday 13 October. Hence, retired hurt on 78 runs and returned to the pavilion.

Their cover is Tom Blundell. Williamson, however, will remain in the team and may play again next month. In his place, Tom Latham will captain.

Afghanistan’s great player Rashid Khan looked lackluster in the first two matches. He had taken two wickets in the first two matches, but against England, Rashid made a brilliant comeback by taking three wickets. While Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a brilliant inning of 80 runs against England.
