New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has a broken thumb. New Zealand Cricket confirmed this on Twitter on Saturday, October 14. Williamson suffered the injury in the match against Bangladesh on Friday 13 October. Hence, retired hurt on 78 runs and returned to the pavilion.
Their cover is Tom Blundell. Williamson, however, will remain in the team and may play again next month. In his place, Tom Latham will captain.
