Putin met Foreign Minister Jaishankar: On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Russia. During this, both the leaders discussed many topics including the war in Ukraine. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been asked by President Putin to come to Russia in 2019.

Putin told Jaishankar that he would love to see his friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Russia. He said that despite the changes happening around the world, relations between Russia and India are getting stronger. India’s population is developing rapidly.

Putin said that he has told Prime Minister Narendra Modi the situation of the Ukraine war several times. I know Modi wants a peaceful solution. I want to discuss this topic with him. Telling the Foreign Minister, Putin said that India’s calendar looks busy during the general elections next year. No matter who wins, relations between Russia and India will remain stable.

Jaishankar has also been India’s Ambassador to Russia. In the meeting with President Putin on Wednesday, the two leaders discussed international issues, India-Russia relations, trade and India’s stance on Ukraine.

Russia stressed that trade between the two countries is not limited to oil, coal and energy-related products, but relations are also developing in high-tech sectors. Putin said that we are happy that amidst the ongoing unrest in the world, relations with our friend India and its citizens in Asia are improving.

Russia supports India’s permanent seat in UNSC.

On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Both had a bilateral meeting. During this, Lavrov supported giving India a permanent seat in the Security Council of the United Nations. He said that India showed the strength of its foreign policy by presiding over the G20. On Tuesday, Jaishankar had earlier met the Indian public in Moscow.

Jaishankar said that many changes have taken place in India and Russia in the last 70-80 decades. International politics also changed, but the relations between the two countries remained stable.

The External Affairs Minister told the Indian community that what makes the relationship between the two countries special is that after the 1950s, many major changes took place in the world in the last 70-80 years. The Soviet Union became Russia. India also made progress in many fields. India-Russia relations are stable in international politics today.

This is the seventh time this year that the Foreign Ministers of India and Russia have met. Both the leaders had met earlier also at the G20 Summit. The Russian President was then replaced at the conference by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Why did Prime Minister Modi himself not visit Russia?

This is the second time that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not come to the India-Russia Annual Summit. In fact, both countries hold an annual conference every year. Leaders from one nation visit another during this time. India and Russia are the venues of the summit twice.

So far 21 bilateral summits have taken place between Russia and India. Putin made his last visit to India in 2021. Prime Minister Modi did not visit Russia after the start of Ukraine war in 2022. Russian President Putin also did not come to India for the G20 meeting in September.

According to a BBC report, Prime Minister Modi is giving a signal to the West by not visiting Russia, because Jaishankar’s visit shows Russia that Delhi has not abandoned its old strategic ally.

Last year, Bloomberg said in a report that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had canceled the conference to be held in Russia after threats to use nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war.
