T-20 World Cup starts from June 1: India and Pakistan will clash in New York on June 9; The final of the first match between America and Canada will be held in Barbados.
T-20 World Cup: ICC has released the schedule of T-20 World Cup. The tournament will be played from June 1 to June 29 across nine cities in the West Indies and the United States. India and Pakistan are in the same group, and the group stage match will be played between the two in New York on June 9. Also, the final match will be played in Barbados city of West Indies on June 29.
For the first time, 20 teams are included in the T-20 World Cup, in the previous two editions there were 16 teams each. India had already won the tournament in 2007, while England are the defending champions.
Opening match between Canada and America.
The opening match of the tournament will be played between the home team of Canada and America. The competition will be held in Dallas only on June 1st. In 1844, America and Canada also played the first match in cricket history.
On 2 June, West Indies will play their first match in Guyana against Papua New Guinea. For the first time in the history of T20 World Cup, the tournament will play 55 matches over 29 days.
There will be 40 matches in the group stage from June 1 to June 17. 12 matches will be played in the Super-8 stage from June 19 to June 24. The first semi-final match will be held in Guyana on June 26, while the second match will be held in Trinidad on June 27. Final on June 29 in Barbados
There will be 41 matches in West Indies, 14 in America.
Both West Indies and America are hosting the T20 World Cup. There will be 41 matches in six cities in the West Indies, out of which three will be knockout matches. While the remaining 14 matches will be held in Dallas, New York and Florida of America. There are six cities in the West Indies: Trinidad, Guyana, Barbados, Antigua, Saint Vincent and Saint Lucia.
All matches between India and Pakistan will be held in America.
In the T-20 World Cup, 5-5 teams were divided into four groups. Pakistan and India belong to the same group. Ireland, Canada and America are also included in this group. India and Pakistan will play all their matches only in America.
India’s first three matches will be held in New York, while the fourth will be held in Florida. The team will play its first match against Ireland on June 5, second match against Pakistan on June 9, third match against America on June 12 and fourth match against Canada on June 15.
Two teams will go to Super-8 from one group.
There are also 5-5 teams in Group-A, Group-B and Group-D. All the teams will play 4-4 matches in their respective groups. The top two teams at the end of the group stage will advance to the Super-8 stage. In this stage, eight teams will be divided into two groups of four each. Here the semi-finals will be played, which will be between the best teams in both the groups, 2-2. On June 29, the final will take place between the two teams winning the semi-finals.
ICC tournament will be held in America for the first time.
America has hosted the ICC tournament for the first time. The 2028 Olympic Games, which also includes cricket, will be held in America. In view of this incident, ICC gave first priority to holding T20 World Cup in America. The T20 World Cup will be held in both America and West Indies, which was also played in 2010. The last World Cup in 2022 was held in Australia.
England-West Indies won the title 2-2 times.
In 2022, England defeated Pakistan in the final and won the title. India then lost to England in the semi-finals. Team India won the tournament for the first time in 2007. Since then the team has not been able to win the trophy even once.
India, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have won the title 1 time each. Whereas West Indies (2012, 2016) and England (2010, 2022) have won the T-20 World Cup 2 times each. The tournament, played nine times so far, will be held in America and West Indies.
There were 16-16 teams in the last 2 tournaments.
16–16 teams participated in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups. Which 45-45 matches were played. Of the 16 teams, 8 got direct entry into the Super-12 stage. Four teams had entered Super-12 from the qualifying round.
