Actor Matthew Perry passes away: Matthew Perry, the actor who played Chandler Bing on the hit TV show Friends, has died, multiple media outlets have reported. His age was 54 years. According to the Los Angeles Times, TMZ and other sources, Perry died of drowning in her home on Saturday.

LAPD Officer Drake Madison told the AP that officers had gone to the block “to investigate the death of a male in his 50s,” confirming the police response, which was listed as Perry’s home address.
At the age of 24, Perry was cast in the sitcom Friends, which brought her fame. In the sitcom’s ten seasons he played Chandler, a sarcastic but amiable commitment lover who later falls in love with type-A Monica Geller. But away from the screen, Perry struggled with drug addiction. His autobiography, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, came to light last year and exposed decades of binge drinking and prescription drug addiction. In the book, which he dedicated to his fellow drug addicts, he described drug use and its associated health problems: He claimed to have undergone 14 surgeries, spent half spent his life in treatment and undergone an approximate total of 65 detoxifications.

The actor said to The New York Times last year, “I would think of the people that I would be helping, and it would keep me going, whenever I bumped into something that I didn’t really want to share.”

Perry discussed his dysfunctional relationship with his job and his attempts to conceal his addiction while working on-site.

According to Perry’s memoir, “I felt like I was gonna die if the live audience didn’t laugh, and that’s not healthy for sure.” However, there were moments when I might Sometimes, I would sweat and have spasms when I would recite a line and the audience would not laugh.

I would panic if I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get. This happened every night. I became worse from this pressure. Perry’s roles as a fellow White House counsel on The West Wing and on Friends earned her two additional Emmy nods. Perry has also starred in Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards, 17 Again, and the TV show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. The Massachusetts-born actor raised his parents in several locations across Canada and frequently traveled to his parents’ homes in Los Angeles and Montreal.
