Brenden Rice NFL Draft: USC Wide Receiver Joins Impressive List of Trojan NFL Draftees
LOS ANGELES – USC wide receiver Brenden Rice was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers as the fifth pick of the seventh round (225th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft. This selection continues USC’s impressive legacy of producing top-tier NFL talent.
USC’s NFL Draft Dominance
USC is second only to Notre Dame for the most all-time NFL Draft picks, with 528 Trojans being selected over the years. This latest pick of Brenden Rice marks the 20th Trojan wide receiver drafted since 2000, showcasing the program’s ability to develop elite pass-catching talent.
Brenden Rice’s Breakout Senior Season
In his senior season at USC in 2023, Rice had a breakout year, recording 45 receptions for 791 yards (17.6 avg.) with a team-leading 12 touchdowns. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Pac-12 Second Team and ranked him 7th nationally in receiving touchdowns.
Rice’s Impressive College Career
Prior to his standout senior season, Rice had a strong career at USC and Colorado. As a junior in 2022, he recorded 39 catches for 611 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also contributing as a kick returner. In 2021 at Colorado, he was one of the Pac-12’s top wide receivers and kick returners, earning recognition for his all-around abilities.
Joining the Los Angeles Chargers
Brenden Rice will now have the opportunity to showcase his talents at the professional level with the Los Angeles Chargers. He is the first Trojan to be drafted by the Chargers since defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu was selected in the second round in 2023.
USC’s Continued NFL Draft Success
With Brenden Rice’s selection, USC continues to cement its reputation as a premier destination for developing NFL-caliber talent. The Trojans’ impressive draft history, including Caleb Williams’ recent first-overall selection by the Chicago Bears, solidifies the program’s status as a powerhouse in the college football landscape.
