PAK Army Chief’s Perspective: General Asim Munir, held a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and once again raised the issue of Kashmir. During this meeting, he emphasized that peace in South Asia can only be established when the Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with the wishes of the people of the region and the proposals of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Controversial Removal of Article 370 from Kashmir: Munir’s Critique

According to Inter-Services Public Relations, Munir criticized the removal of Article 370 from Kashmir in front of the UN Chief. He stated that India’s decision is unilateral and illegal, going against the UNSC resolutions. Prior to this, Munir also discussed the Kashmir issue with the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin during his visit to the United States.

Munir expressed concerns that the steps India is taking in Kashmir are not conducive to peace in the region. During the meeting with the UN Chief, Pakistan’s Army Chief also raised the issue of Gaza, urging immediate ceasefire and international community support for Palestine.

Munir stressed the necessity of a ceasefire to prevent the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He highlighted the plight of Palestinians facing war, being targeted, and not receiving the necessary assistance.

Supreme Court Upholds Article 370 Revocation Decision

On December 11, the Supreme Court of India upheld the government’s decision to revoke Article 370 in Kashmir. The court ruled that Jammu and Kashmir constituted an essential component of India and that Article 370 was only transitory. The President has the full authority to make decisions in this regard. Additionally, the court ordered elections to be held in the state by September 2024.

Pakistani PM’s Assurance: Continued Support for Kashmiris

Just three days before this development, Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar stated that the Indian Supreme Court’s decision on Article 370 is politically motivated. He gave his word that Pakistan will help the people of Kashmir politically, morally, and diplomatically going forward.He emphasized that India cannot escape its responsibilities through domestic laws and judicial decisions.

Imran Khan’s Concern from Pakistani Jail: Fear of Complicating Kashmir Issue

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, currently incarcerated, expressed concern that the Supreme Court’s decision on Article 370 could further complicate the Kashmir issue. He argued that the decision is controversial and against international law, potentially prolonging the decades-long problem.
