Protest against Hit and run law, truck drivers on strike.
Hit and run law: Transporters and truck drivers have gone on strike against hit and run rules in the country. In hit-and-run cases, a 2023 amendment to the Indian Judicial Code provides for a fine of up to Rs 7 lakh and imprisonment of up to 10 years for the guilty driver.
The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has demanded making the hit and run law more stringent. The organization took out the blockade. Since then there has been a strike in the entire country. On Saturday, December 30, truck drivers and transporters demonstrated on several highways including Jaipur, Meerut and Agra Expressways.
Lathi charge on protesters in Gujarat.
Truck drivers in Gujarat tried to block the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway, causing a long jam. At that time some of the crowd broke the window glass of the bus. After this the police resorted to lathicharge and injured some people. Some people have been arrested here.
Truck strike will increase prices.
The common man will be directly affected by this strike. Due to the truck strike, there will be no arrival of milk, vegetables and fruits and this will affect the prices. At the same time, the supply of petrol and diesel will stop, which will make it difficult for local transport and travel for the common people.
Every year, more than 28 lakh trucks cover a distance of more than 100 billion kilometers in India. Every day, more than 80 lakh truck drivers in the country carry essential goods from city to city. Due to stoppage of such a large number of trucks due to the strike, essential goods may get spoiled.
Government should consider hit and run law.
The next meeting of AIMTC will be held on January 10. It will be decided that if the government does not accept their demands, then how will they present their side to the government.
AIMTC President Amrit Madan expressed concern over the new provision and said there is a need to take strict action in hit-and-run cases. The government’s new law is good, but it has many flaws. These should be reconsidered.
He said that the transport sector and truck drivers have the biggest contribution to the country’s economy. India is currently facing shortage of drivers, but the government does not pay attention to it.
Lack of foreign investment protocol in the country.
AIMTC says that there is no foreign investment protocol in the country. If this happens, it is largely the driver’s fault without any investigation. It is not seen whether it is the driver’s fault whether the vehicle is big or small.
In the matter, Chairman Madan said that when an accident occurs, the driver does not run with the intention of escaping but runs to escape from the crowd. Therefore, it is unfair to impose punishment and fine on him.
