Tragedy Strikes UNLV Campus: Three Lives Lost in Shocking Shooting Incident

The suspect, identified but withheld pending family notification, was swiftly neutralized by law enforcement, with authorities assuring there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Swift Police Response Averts Potential Massacre

Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department revealed at a news conference that the first call reporting an active shooter came in at approximately 11:45 a.m. local time. Quick responses from both metropolitan and university police culminated in the suspect being shot and killed outside Beam Hall. Three lives were tragically lost in the shooting, which started on the building’s fourth story.

McMahill highlighted the courage and rapid intervention of the responding officers, emphasizing that their prompt arrival likely prevented further casualties. The sheriff expressed condolences, stating, “No student should have to fear pursuing their dreams on a college campus,” describing the incident as a “heinous, unforgivable crime.”

Injuries and Trauma Reported

In addition to the three fatalities, one individual sustained a gunshot wound and was hospitalized in stable condition. Four others were admitted for panic attacks, while two police officers incurred minor injuries during the search for additional victims across the campus.

Sunrise Hospital Trauma Center confirmed receiving three patients from the incident, according to trauma medical director Chris Fisher. A reunification center for families unable to contact their loved ones was established at the campus’s North Hall.

Federal Agencies Assist in Investigation

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are two federal law enforcement organizations that are actively involved in the investigation and are providing assistance to the metropolitan police.
