After the rescue, the employees were sent to Chinyalisaur, 30 to 35 km away. A 41-bed specialized hospital has been built there. How Rat Miners Worked in Uttarkashi Tunnel.

Rat miners entered and drilled the 800 mm pipe. They used to go inside the pipe one by one and dig with small shovels with the help of hands. About two quintals of debris was taken out from the trolley at a time. Each of these also had an oxygen mask for protection, a special goggles for eye protection and a blower for air.

What is rat hole mining?

Mining is the act of digging, rat means rat, and hole means hole. The implication is obvious: to burrow like a rat into a hole. In this, a small hole is dug in the side of the mountain, a pole is made and the debris is removed by hand.
