The explosion in the Harda factory shook the ground and it rained stones. The biggest reason for this was using the basement of the factory as a godown. More than a thousand kilos of gunpowder stock exploded in the godown. Due to this the foundation of the building broke. The debris of wall and roof fell rapidly for 400 meters, due to which people died.
Fire brigade employees involved in extinguishing the fire in the factory said that 15 kg of explosive material should be godowned on 25 square meter of land. But contrary to the rules, the basement of Harda’s factory was being used to store gunpowder stock. Poklane driver, who was digging in the godown area, said that there was yellow ash in the excavation of the basement.
Factory cannot run in the building, yet license is available.
The factory where the accident took place had four licenses. Rule 126 of the 2008 Explosives Rules states that godown of explosive material can take place only on land. Every year, the Home Department sends district collectors and superintendents of police to inspect firecracker factories and godowns.
