Lal Krishna Advani will receive Bharat Ratna: At the age of 96, senior BJP leader LK Advani will be awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed about this on social media on Saturday.
He is the third leader to receive this honor after BJP’s founding member Nanaji Deshmukh and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Also, he is the 50th person to be honored with Bharat Ratna today.
Sharing two pictures of Advani on social media, Prime Minister Modi said, “I am very happy to inform that Shri Lal Krishna Advani ji will be honored with Bharat Ratna.” I also talked to him and praised him for this honour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has received this seventh Bharat Ratna in 2014. Before Advani, on January 23, it was announced to give Bharat Ratna (posthumously) to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika, Madan Mohan Malviya and Nanaji Deshmukh have also received this honour. The central government can give this honor to three people in a year.
Modi said- No one can forget his contribution to the development of the country.
The Prime Minister wrote, ‘He is the most respected Governor of our times.’ No one can forget his contribution to the progress of the country. He became the Deputy Prime Minister of the country by working from the grassroots level. He was also the Information and Broadcasting Minister and Home Minister of the country.
His way of working in Parliament will always remain exemplary. For decades, Advani ji remained steadfastly committed to transparency and integrity in public life. He has laid down exemplary rules in political morality. He has been credited with unprecedented work towards national unity and cultural revival.
It is a very emotional moment for me to receive the Bharat Ratna award. I will always be happy that I have had countless opportunities to learn from and interact with him.
Advani recited Sanskrit mantra and remembered Vajpayee.
On receiving the Bharat Ratna, Advani said, “I accept it today with utmost humility and gratitude.” It is an honor not only for me as a person, but also for the principles and ideals that I have striven for throughout my life. Advani said that since joining Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at the age of 14, I have made only one wish. Throughout my life I have worked selflessly in the service of my country. This motto, “Idam”, was the inspiration of my life.
He said that today I gratefully remember Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay and Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with whom I had the honor of working closely. Advani further expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and President Draupadi Murmu for the honor. Also remembered BJP Sangh and Kamla Advani.
Advani received Padma Vibhushan award in 2015.
In 2015, Advani was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second highest civilian honour. In the same year, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was honored with Bharat Ratna. The then President Pranab Mukherjee himself visited his house and gave him this honour.
Vajpayee was then 90 years old and his health was poor. In violation of protocol, Mukherjee visited the former Prime Minister’s residence, Krishna Menon Marg, and presented him the Bharat Ratna. In the same year, Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya was also honored posthumously. In 2019 also, Pranab Mukherjee was given the Bharat Ratna Award.

He was born in Karachi on 8 November 1927. He was the seventh Deputy Prime Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government between 2002 and 2004. Between 1998 and 2004, he was the Home Minister in the NDA government. One of the founding members of BJP.
